Reimagining a high-cost batch manufacturing process
Our client was using a high-cost batch process for manufacture of a successful product, which suffered from high variability in product quality due to the large-scale nature of the batch processing.
What we did
As part of an initiative to redefine the future manufacturing approach for the product, the 42T team modelled the existing process to understand sources of variability, and then reimagined how the process might alternatively be achieved.
The process was deconstructed into its discrete transformation steps, and each of these investigated to identify how else might be more effectively achieved.
Project achievements
A series of fundamentally new process solution concepts was created, ranging from continuous flow through to continuous micro-batch processes.
Theoretical assessment of the leading concepts demonstrated that more consistent product quality and more efficient process operation was achievable.
