Sustainability is in our DNA
We have very talented engineers at 42T and Rob Mueller is one who saw for himself how easy it can be to make a difference, one repair at a time. As engineers, we believe in a circular economy, that things ought to be designed well and for durability.
Sustainability runs through the core of our business and we strive to make it part of everything we do. Let Rob take up the story of how he saved a classic toaster from landfill.
Right to repair
"I'd always coveted one of these classic Dualit toasters! After a bit of searching, I managed to pick up one on Gumtree for just £15 although unfortunately, as mentioned by its owner, it did have a broken timer unit.
Getting hold of a brand-new timer unit online was straightforward and cost around £10. A few screws to remove the bottom plate - I think 6 to be exact - a couple of minutes later and we were back in business. It really was that simple.
It would have been too easy to just stop there though. I couldn’t resist taking the whole thing apart, not least to give it a good clean but more out of curiosity at this point.
I was immediately surprised by the overall build quality of the product. From the cast aluminium end-caps to the sheet-formed stainless steel casework, this product is certainly built to last. Its simple design and modular components allow it to be easily disassembled and cleaned.
I even found a date stamp of 2006 on the inside of one of the end caps. That’s right, 16 years old! Could it last a lifetime? If so, perhaps the £200 price tag isn’t too bad!
