Cambridge’s 24 hour sponsored ‘Relay for Life’ event, in support of Cancer Research UK, took place this month and three members of the 42 Technology team were there taking part.

42 Technology was proud to sponsor the event, which started at midday on Saturday 12th September with a group of cancer survivors completing an inspiring lap of the University of Cambridge’s athletics track. With the event getting fully under way there was live music, games, food, entertainment and fireworks as the evening started to close in.

Fortunately, the weather was kind to us and remained clear all night with Joe Griffiths keeping the baton moving from 1:00am until 4:00am. Tom Copeland then took over and kept on running through to 6:30am. Stuart Banister then finished things off in daylight on Sunday. Tom Hellier had been due to do a shift, but having been on the wrong end of an enthusiastic tackle in a rugby match, spent the afternoon in Addenbrooke’s Hospital instead.

Many teams camped overnight on the grass in the middle of the athletics track and there was something of a party atmosphere. Silent disco headphones were handed out with people dancing their way around the track under the stars – and they were still dancing hours later as the sun rose over Cambridge.

With donations still coming in, the event expects to raise £52,500. If you would like to make a donation to support cancer research, then you can do so by following this link.
