42T organises awareness activities during Neurodiversity Celebration Week

March 2024

42T is proud to be supporting Neurodiversity Week 2024 between 18 - 24 March and has arranged a talk for colleagues and a couple of activities to get us talking and thinking about neurodiversity.

What steps have you taken recently to support your team in their work? Here at 42T, the well-being of our employees is a top priority, and we are constantly seeking ways to promote improved wellness and activity among our colleagues.

Neurodiversity refers to a world where neurological differences are recognised and respected as all other human variations. Depending on how our brains are wired we think, move, process information and communicate in different ways.

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term used to describe alternative thinking styles such as dyslexia, DCD (Dyspraxia), dyscalculia, autism and ADHD. But regardless of labels, neurodiversity is about recognising those who think differently.

Approximately 15-20% of population has a neurological difference. Many ‘challenges’ that neurodivergent people face are more to do with the environment and systems they are placed in, often designed by a majority population.

This week, we were delighted to welcome Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Takyi and Becky Stearn from Neurobox to speak at 42T. They discussed neurodiversity in the workplace and Liz shared her inspiring story.

Liz, herself a neurodivergent, embraces her identity and has overcome many barriers and challenges throughout her life. A Q&A session for 42T colleagues was held at the end.

HR Business Partner, Amy Harrison says, "We are proud to have an exceptional team at 42T, and we are dedicated to enhancing their wellbeing whenever possible. This not only adds a fun element to the workplace but also boosts productivity and fosters a strong sense of camaraderie among our team."

On Thurs, 21 March, we will be taking a short walk around St. Ives and Amy Harrison will  bring a few conversation starters to help 42T colleagues to talk about neurodiversity in the workplace.

Camille Holland, Recruitment Administrator at 42T says, "Microsoft also has a range of accessibility tools and training for interested people. We are also in the process of forming a dyslexia working group going forward."

There were be a number of webinars taking place throughout Neurodiversity Celebration Week with a range of topics that one can sign up for. Additional online resources are available for organisations that are similarly interested.
