42 Technology targets transport and infrastructure with new innovation team
February 2016
42 Technology has launched a new technology and product development capability specifically aimed at the transport and infrastructure sector.
The new offer will consolidate our existing sector experience and skills into a more focused R&D resource for companies that are developing innovative new products and systems for areas such as: condition monitoring of infrastructure assets; electric vehicle charging; gas vehicle fuelling; and intelligent signage and signalling.
The new activity will be led by Dr Zane van Romunde, who joined us in 2015 and has now been appointed to lead our Transport Sector.
42 Technology has decided to set up a dedicated transport team following a strategic review of our business and a series of major client wins. The new team will enable us to offer a more targeted and integrated approach, to build on our track record, and to help clients more easily access the additional technology and engineering skills they need to fast track their new product development programmes.
Our strengths for the sector include in-depth experience in: sensor and communication technologies, smart products and connected systems, thermofluidics, and the development of ruggedised products for use within challenging environments.
Recent transport sector client wins and project successes include: the design and development of marine display systems for use on luxury yachts; the development of payload attachment systems for the SKYLON reusable spaceplane; the ruggedisation of safety-critical train equipment; and winning the ‘Tomorrow’s Train Design Today’ competition with a novel design concept for a train carriage that can be quickly and easily reconfigured to carry freight or passengers as required. We plan to unveil a working prototype of the design later this year.
Transport is now one of 42 Technology’s five main business sectors; the others being consumer, industrial, healthcare and energy.
