Newsletter: Healthcare & Life Sciences Update – April 2022
April 2022
By Craig Townsend, Director of Healthcare at 42T
Spring is here! And with it comes a wave of nice weather in Cambridgeshire, a rarity to say the least.
One of the biggest stories as we arrive in the middle of Q2 is the easing of COVID restrictions across many countries. As two of the main keys to unlock a door out of perpetual restrictions, vaccines and diagnostic tests have done a remarkable job and the last couple of years has catapulted vaccine developments and diagnostic testing into everyone’s consciousness.
Hopefully, we will continue to see more investment into new diagnostics, biosensing, biomarker discovery and vaccine research to prevent future pandemics.
In this update:
- Exploring the data bias in healthcare, why are women marginalized? And what can we do to break the bias in women’s health
- Meet Marta, a Biomedical Engineer who specialises in biomechanics
- Last month’s top stories including automation and building a successful diagnostic device
Latest insight from our team
Women’s Health: Data bias in healthcare
Why is there a data bias? What are the consequences? And what can we as engineers, designers and product developers do about it?
Meet the team: Marta Uncio Ribera
Position: Biomedical Engineer
Joined the team in: January 2021
Specialism/skills: Marta graduated with Distinction from the Biomedical Engineering MSc at Imperial College London, specialising in biomechanics, and holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Cambridge.
Fun fact: Sports enthusiast – from ice hockey to ballet
And in case you missed these insights from the team…
Automation: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
Those experienced in developing automation can often appear to be the most vocal in damping down expectations. We offer some advice.
